Final Reflection Post

Having taken Customer Insights for Innovation this past semester, I was very excited to take Sustainability Inspired Innovation. Customer Insights for Innovation was a great exercise in gaining creative confidence. I was both eager and excited to continue using creative confidence within the consideration of Sustainability Inspired Innovations. I consider Sustainability something that guides my life, so being able to delve into an exploration of how it manifests within design was very exciting!  To give more specific takeaways, I created a list that outlines my big a-ha moments that I hope to carry forward from Sustainability Inspired Innovation. 1. Sustainability is more expansive than the environment; a helpful framework to capture the more significant meaning of sustainability is the Living Principles Analysis. Admittedly, my conception of sustainability before this course was constrained to the environment. I think it is a commonplace for people to use sustainability to refer to th

Evaluate

Image
The evaluation process was an incredibly productive period, where we gained incredible insights from an outside perspective. Being so up close to our own project, it is easy to overlook its faults or haziness. We have the contextual background of what our goals are to fill in gaps. It was an invaluable process of talking with people who are not working on our project to see the weaknesses or strengths that we may overlook. In this blog, I will outline our process of evaluation preparation and then the evaluation process itself. Our group decided that we wanted to dedicate most of our evaluation process to the time spent on the prototype itself. However, we identified a need for a contextual background to have the correct perspective to approach our prototype with our feedback group. We understood that it is incredibly likely that our feedback group could be consumers of Disney+. Still, our persona encapsulated both a user of Disney+ personally and Disney+ as a parent. To solve this, we

Prototyping

Image
Tom Kelley captured an idea that resonated with our team's prototyping process incredibly well. He said, "When the project is especially complex, prototyping is a way of making progress when the challenges seem insurmountable." Our ideation session was incredibly productive; we identified that we wanted to frame our solution as a Diversity education mode aimed at bettering Disney+'s LPA's Culture-Diversity performance. However, initially, as we started to bridge the ideation and prototyping process, we were overwhelmed with all of the features we wanted to include. As prototyping progressed, we were able to make steady progress in approaching this complex solution while "building to learn".  Our initial prototype sessions were centralized around creating the foundational framework of our platform. We began to approach visualizing this through the use of Figma, a collaborative interface design tool that would allow us to create a mock Disney+ platform. Pr

Ideation- Process Lead

For this week, I was the Process lead for our Ideation phase. So, in lieu of my blog, Bob Iger, former CEO of the Walt Disney Company, has some words on Disney fitting to our project.

Experience With Design Mode

Image
Our groups' experience with the design thinking define mode was an exciting time, laying down the foundation for subsequent processes. Our team has grown to move swiftly and has become very adept at working off and elaborating upon each others' ideas. Additionally, Camille did a stellar job in being our process lead; she brought great organization and communication, and this approach was incredibly productive for our team. In this blog, I will explore our experience first with our work with the Persona and then our work with the How Might We Statements. Personas In class, Camille had asked a question that resonated with me. She had asked whether it had to be an individual or whether it could be a different interpretation of a customer, a family. Doing Disney+. The range in which who consumes this is often not just the decision-maker. I was led to consider how to encapsulate both an individual and a family. I really appreciated Camille's willingness to ask this question beca

What Constitutes Great Design In Streaming Services, like Disney+

Image
What Constitutes Great Design In Streaming Services, like Disney+ Disney+ has been something I have been waiting for for a long time. Being a Disney fan, I knew inevitably that I would be a subscriber, regardless of the platform itself. However, I am not above being critical of this service. I do not think that Disney+ is perfect; nor do I think it's terrible. Looking at the blend of all streaming services, that I am familiar with, I think there are multiple features from each that I would sample from to create an ideal state-of-the-art design of a streaming service. I have organized this by identifying design principles and giving explanations of why I think they should be included. 1.Disney+'s Simple, Elegant Interface I read an article discussing Disney+'s purposive choice to keep it tidy and organized. Compared to Netflix, Disney+ does not show all of its content at once. It consolidates its content into separate categories, operating under the assumption that users kno

Consumer Wisdom: Nike Free Metcon 3 Training Shoe

Image
The Purchase: A Pair of Nike Free Metcon 3 Training Shoe Over the past few years, I have gotten more into weight lifting. I often shifted from different forms of exercise; so, I always bought shoes that were generalized in function. For example, I wanted a shoe that would be comfortable to run in, play tennis in, and maybe a light hike. However, as I identified lifting as something I found a lot of joy in, I wanted something more tailored to that. Eventually, I bought the Metcon 5 training shoe. The sole was very thin and I found when I did my cardio workouts that it was not very kind to the arches of my feet. I realized I had over-committed to weight liftings' ideal shoes. Consequently, I started to look for a shoe that had more support but still was suggested for lifting and training.  Metcon 5 After having a better understanding of what I wanted, I researched to find the match. This led me to the Nike Free Metcon 3 Training Shoe. My parents bought them for me as a holiday gift.
